When I was in my late 20s, I was stationed at a military base in Germany. One weekend, a few of my friends and I decided to go on a road trip to Amsterdam. We planned everything out, packed our bags, and set off on our journey.
As we were driving through the countryside, we started to get a bit hungry, so we stopped at a small gas station to grab some snacks. I went inside to pay for the food and as I was standing in line, I noticed that there was a small display of souvenirs by the cash register.
One of the items on the shelf caught my eye - it was a small wooden clog with a windmill painted on it. I thought it would make a great souvenir for my mom, who had always wanted to visit the Netherlands. So, I bought the clog and went back to the car to continue our journey.
As we drove, I couldn't stop thinking about the clog and how much my mom was going to love it. When we finally arrived in Amsterdam, we checked into our hotel and I couldn't wait to give her the gift.
But when I opened my bag to get the clog, I realized that I had left it at the gas station. I was devastated! I had been so excited to give it to my mom, and now it was gone.
In the end, it all turned out okay. My friends and I had a great time in Amsterdam, and I eventually replaced the clog with a different souvenir for my mom. But I still laugh about that silly mistake every time I think about it.
