Lately, you see all of these protests for all of these things, but the one thing you never see here in the US is any type of protest or even any discussions about workers' rights. I mean, realistically, we don't really have any. Sure, there are laws and regulations, but no one follows them. After all, why should they? No one going to call them out. Their employees are kept at the poverty line. They can't afford to call them out. Worst case scenario, the job gets shut down and now you and your coworkers are all homeless.
Why don't we see anyone angry about this? It's never talked about on any broad scale, yet we all can name instances of safety violations or discrimination practices. Heck, my last job was Highly discriminatory about who they hired. They also broke several laws, including putting classes in their contract prohibiting their employees from talking about their wages.
I believe it's seriously time we start talking about these things. We all joke about how when someone does something dangerous "OSHA Intensifies", yet realistically, OSHA isn't even a threat. It's a joke. So too are health inspections at a restaurant. We need to talk about this as a worker and as a consumer.
