Over the past few decades, technology has evolved at an astonishing rate. Smartphones, the Internet, cloud computing, and hundreds of other inventions are changing every aspect of our lives.
Communications, business, government, travel, fundraising and even agriculture have changed. But what about our brain? Are all these new technologies changing us from the inside out? This is what many believe, including professional psychologists.
As modern psychology says, there is practically no doubt that all new technologies, led by the Internet and digital technologies, shape our way of thinking in clear and precise ways, intentional and unintended, beneficial and harmful.
Although research in this area is still in its infancy, and there are no scientifically agreed conclusions, there are many areas in which modern digital technologies certainly affect how we interact with the world and how our brains develop.
1. Decision making
You need to buy a new car. What to do if you are like millions of other people, you go online to do a search. In fact, no matter what decision you need to make - whether you are trying to figure out where to eat or the best way to start a new career, you can turn to the Internet for advice. This means that we, as a species, should not rely solely on internal instinct, but instead can gather facts and knowledge in an effort to make informed decisions.
2. Building relationships
It is expected that 2.9 billion people will be on social media by 2025. Combine this with personal messages sent through traditional sms and through messaging apps, and we will fundamentally change the way we build and maintain relationships. But is it good or bad? If we're dining with friends, talking with a family member in California, and discussing events in Japan with friends, are we fully involved in any of these relationships?
On the other hand, does the ability to stay in touch with friends and family around the world not support relationships that would otherwise end? Many people believe that the Internet is good for our relationships, but it remains to be seen whether children who grow up using smartphones develop the interpersonal and relationship building skills they need to form deep and meaningful relationships, or whether our opinion will be isolated from close personal connections and feel uncomfortable with them.

The Internet gives us access to a huge amount of information, in addition, our personal computers can store every shopping list and random ideas we have, allowing us to access the information when we need it later.
A new study shows that this wide access to information has changed not only what we remember, but also how we remember it. Our reliance on the Internet has reduced our ability to remember facts. However, we seem to be improving our ability to remember where and how to find information.
For example, now we are more likely to remember in which folder we stored the information rather than the information itself. Likewise, when we are faced with a question about a fact, we are more likely to remember the search queries that helped us find answers to those questions from the facts themselves.
Taking into account all of the above, we can conclude that the Internet and digital technologies can affect our physical and psychological development to a greater extent than we expected.
