I have 2 dobermans so , at the first days u have to go with him out for peeing etc like every 2 hours , after week you can go after every 3 and etc .. for my breed its enough to shower 2 times in year with shampoo because of sensitive skin , but when he gets dirty just without shampoo. And best thing to feed is hard , you must test out lot of types and see on his coat if its shiny ...

For me personally I prefer cats but if you choose dogs. You should walk him when you think you and the dog are on the mood to go on a walk. Another one is you need to shower the dog around 3 times a week.
