Here are my top 10 favorite movies of all time.
1: Seven. For me, the greatest thriller ever made in history. Fantastic cinematography that brings so much atmosphere to the film, interesting characters (especially Somerset and John Doe), fantastic story of the darkness of humanity with a light of hope, great attention to detail, great reinconporation, haves one of the best opening credits I've seen in any film, best ending of all time with one of the best closing lines, stellar performances and perfect casting. I love everything about it.
2: Her. Joaquin Phoenix's performance in this film is absolutely amazing. And besides him, the other performances are pretty good and I could believe on the characters. It's also possibly the most emotional film I've ever seen. It really resonates with me and does talk about many subjects I can relate to. It's a pretty relatable film for those struggling in relationships and need for human connection. The cinematography, music, story, message, etc. All of it fantastic.
3: Schindler's List. The best holocaust film of all time. Fantastic cinematography, great use of color and symbolism, fantastic performances and a very emotional and hard film. This is the best Liam Neeson has go in his acting career. Also, by far, Steve Spielberg's best film.
4: Perfect Blue. The best animated film I've ever seen. The plot is not very complicated but going below the surface, it is a very complex and well-put together film talking about a lot of subjects that do connect to each other and are still relevant today. The animation is great, music is great, story is pretty fantastic and haves amazing attention to detail and haves so many hidden things in it that you are allowed to make multiple interpretations of what each detail means. I also love how it is presented in such a eay that fits perfectly with the reality-fiction theme of the film and also puts yiu on the perspective of the female protagonist. Making you feel what she feels. Also, being confusing is actually not a flaw of the film and it is a choice made by the director to making feel what Mima feels and to portray the themes of the film.
5: Treasure Planet. Best Disney movie ever made, in my opinion, and a really refreshing one. Great message and themes that are well-executed, great 3D animation mixed with 2D animation, a great portrayal of a father-son relationship, very compelling characters, great story, fascinating world building, great concepts and great use of music. Also, no musicals!
6: Memento. For me, easily Nolan's best film and one of those films that he sadly doesn't make anymore. Also, a fantastic execution of a llamative premise and great use of non-linear storytelling. The story told in reverse isn't just a simple gimmick but it is very important for the story itself and also putting you on perspective of the main character. By putting it in reverse, it shows the protagonist's mental disability of lost memories. You start just like him where you have no idea what is going on, what has happened before and also not being sure of what information you have trust. It also serves to show some nice reinconporation and to cause some interesting reveals of the story. It fits perfectly in a thematic way and serves to better deliver information. It is one of the best constructed stories I've seen in film. Also,it haves an amazing ending with a very great message that shows it is more than just a revenge story of a man with short term memory. Also, the film haves surprisingly a nice sense of humor at times. Love that chase scene lol. Also, great performance from Guy Pearce.
7: Oldboy. One of the very best revenge stories ever made. The actor playing the main protagonist does absolute amazing performance in this film, it haves one of the best fight scenes ever, clever deliver of information, great reinconporation, powerful ending and a film with lots of personality. Lots to appreciate about it. Also, some really badass music.
8#: No Country For Old Men. A film that really respects the intelligence of the viewer. It talks about a lot of philosophical themes, does have a lot of subtle hints for who the charaaracters are, great cinematography, etc. It is very tense and Javier does an amazing performance and also being one of the scariest antagonists I've seen. It haves great story and knows what to show and what not to show.
9: The Diving Bell And The Butterfly. Very beautiful film. I am surprised no one talks about it. The film is very emotional and does a great portraying the perspective of the disabled character ane making you feel what he feels. The story is sad but inspiring at the same time. Also, haves a nice father-son subplot, which is like my weakness of mine.
10: American Psycho. Patrick Bateman is one of the best written villians I've seen in fiction and Christopher does a amazing job portraying him. It's one of my favorite performances. It haves a nice sense of humor and does talk about a lot of nice subjects. It is the best slasher film and one of the best character studies I've ever seen.
