Forspoken​

Have you ever yearned to leave the troubles of your old life behind and embark on a journey across a fantastical world? Of course you have – that’s videogames in a nutshell. Forspoken’s protagonist, Frey, is a dissatisfied New Yorker that gets unceremoniously yanked through a portal to Athia, a verdant land of sweeping vistas and crumbling castles. She’s also accompanied by a sentient bracelet attached to her wrist that’s quick to provide exposition, gameplay tips, and endless sarcastic quips as Frey gets her bearings with her new abilities.


Frey is capable of traversing the landscape of Athia in style, defending herself with wide variety of offensive, defensive, and support magic alongside a dynamic parkour system. There are countless opportunities for synergy, which you’ll quickly need to master if you have any hope of confronting the matriarchal Tantas and healing Athia’s corruption. Who knows, you might even make it home in time to feed your cat.

Dead Space remake​

Dead Space is such a staple of the sci-fi survival horror genre that it hardly needs an introduction. You take on the role of Isaac Clarke, an engineer assigned to repair the USG Ishimura after it sent out a distress signal. What could possibly go wrong? A lot, it turns out, as Isaac abruptly comes face-to-face with the reanimated corpses scattered across the Ishimura, mutated beyond recognition by the mysterious necromorph contagion.


Dead Space has aged remarkably well, but after 14 years the joints are starting to creak a little bit. This remake rebuilds the USG Ishimura and its horrors from the ground up, with the aim of capturing the unique atmosphere of Dead Space’s stunning visuals and sound design with the latest technology. Developer Motive has also retrofitted Dead Space’s story with references to events and worldbuilding later established in its sequels. These changes all serve to truly make the trilogy whole, and deliver the quintessential Dead Space experience.

Hogwarts Legacy is the much anticipated open-world game and prequel to the Harry Potter books and films.Thankfully we don’t have too long to wait for a release date and Warner Bros has already given us a few glimpses of what’s to come. Atomic Heart​

Atomic Heart has been in the pipeline for so long and appeared so ambitious that we occasionally began to question whether or not it would ever come out. Thankfully, we’ve now got a release date to make our dreams of playing it a reality. We don’t know too much about the story behind this action-adventure FPS game, but we do know that it’s set in a retro-futuristic utopia that’s been disrupted by an inadvertent robot uprising.


Atomic Heart pits you against an army of mutants and machines as you try to uncover the cause of the uprising and fulfill your own personal mission. In order to survive you must use everything you can get your hands on, from heavy artillery to a power glove that grants you superhuman powers. At times surreal and comedic, Atomic Heart looks like a lovechild of Bioshock and Wolfenstein that’s set to blow us all away.

Amnesia: The Bunker​

After Amnesia: Rebirth took steps to restore this beloved survival horror series to its former glory back in 2020, it shouldn’t have come as too much of a surprise that we’d see a continuation. That said, the recent announcement trailer confirmed that we’ll be getting our hands on it a little sooner than expected. It also gave us some indication of what we can expect from the latest instalment of the Amnesia series. We assume the role of Henri Clément, a WW2 French soldier trapped in an underground bunker. He’s also not alone, and the creature that’s stalking him is both terrifying and relentless.

Amnesia The Bunker is already set to make some big changes to the Amnesia format. Not only has it dispensed with traditional linearity in favour of a semi-open-world, it also includes actual weapons to defend yourself. While your chances of survival may be slim, there’ll be plenty of puzzles to solve between creeping around the eponymous bunker and scavenging for items – just don’t forget to keep an ear out for your impending death.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League​

We’ve been wondering what Batman Arkham developer Rocksteady is up to for years and now we finally have our answer: a Suicide Squad game. We can’t say it’s the game we were hoping for, but Rocksteady has done a terrific job with the Batman license so we’re quietly confident. The latest we’ve seen is a trailer at The Game Awards 2022 that pays homage to the late great Kevin Conroy as Batman.

Homeworld 3​

Homeworld, the beloved series of real-time strategy games, is getting a long-awaited third installation. Homeworld 2 was released almost 18 years ago, but in recent years, the positive reception to the Homeworld Remastered Collection and prequel Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak has encouraged publisher Gearbox and developer Blackbird Interactive to work on an official sequel. Expect more tiny ships gracefully swooping through the vastness of space, and a “ballistics style weapon system similar to Homeworld 1”.

All we have to go from the trailer is that Redfall is a game about a bunch of misfits using their guns and weird powers against a horde of cultists and vampires. But boy did Arkane Studios sell the hell out of that premise.

All four of the playable characters have cool designs and superpowers: there’s the lass with psychic powers that calls on a spectral elevator to launch friends into the sky, a sharpshooter with a raven friend, a nerd with a gatling gun filled with stakes, and a techie with a tiny robot friend. They make an immediate first impression and we can’t wait to see more.

One of the more surprising updates from The Games Awards 2019 was the return The Wolf Among Us 2. You can expect the same choice and consequence style narrative experience of previous Telltale games. Don’t expect it anytime soon, though, as developer LCG Entertainment has hit the reset button.

XDefiant​

Ubisoft’s upcoming arena shooter will see 6v6 teams of ‘Defiants’ duke it out, using customised loadouts and powerful abilities unique to the ‘faction’ you choose. You can change your loadout each time you respawn, so you can adapt to the fast-paced battles as they develop. The game will be free-to-play, and recently dropped the Tom Clancy brand.

The Outer Worlds 2​

Obsidian’s hit retro-futuristic roleplaying game is getting a sequel. The teaser trailer doesn’t tell us much, simply showing off exotic alien landscapes and futuristic combat, but with a wry, self-aware voiceover telling us “the developers haven’t finished the [main character’s] design, or finished the story, or finished any gameplay that’s actually ready to show”. We don’t have any more details, but we’ll keep you updated as soon as we learn more.

Bethesda finished its E3 2018 conference in the best way possible by announcing the upcoming PC game we all wanted: The Elder Scrolls VI. With only a teaser trailer of some rocky hills, ruined castles, and coastlines to go on, we’re still waiting on a setting, and a launch window, of course.

We didn’t hear anything more at the following E3, really. Game director Todd Howard let us down early at E3 2019 to say that there wouldn’t be any further news on

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2​

It’s been 18 long years, but now we finally have a sequel to the cult classic bloodsucker. The sequel is taking us to Seattle, but the land of coffee and grunge has been given a coagulated coat of crimson as you unravel another rich mystery.

Yet, while the original is remembered fondly for its engrossing narrative, it remained rife with bugs and disappointing combat. Luckily, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2’s gameplay plunders immersive sims such as Dishonored 2 and Deus Ex to make its vampiric fisticuffs just as engaging as its story. Following a switch of developers, the release date has been pushed back, but we’re more than ready to sink our teeth in when it finally arrives.

The Outlast Trials​

The Outlast Trials lets you share the terror of being hunted by sledgehammer-wielding brutes with friends. This time you’re not investigating a hospital, instead you and your pals are human guinea pigs in experiments being run by the Murkoff Corporation. Oh, and you can forget all about carrying a camcorder with you everywhere for night vision, instead the chaps at Murkoff have drilled night vision goggles directly into your skull. You lucky thing.

Haunted Chocolatier​

The next game from Stardew Valley developer Eric ‘Concerned Ape’ Barone has been announced, and it’s set in an enchanting fantasy town with plenty of spooky goings-on. It shares Stardew Valley’s charming pixel-art style, though the gameplay will focus on on combat rather than farming.
