For me it was when bro and I were around 8 years old.
Till then it was classic kids childhood, you play with your friends with football, basketball, toy cars etc etc.

When we were second grade, 8y old, both bro and I aced the test with A+
Our dad was so proud that he showed us something new that we never seen before...
... It was A keyboard with few additional buttons, on one end cassette player attached to it and on other end it was attached to TV.
Commodore 64.
My first game that i ever played was first version of Pitfall, then Scrappy Doo and Ghost n Goblins...
From there gaming passion just kept growing.
After that we had Nintendo NES.
During 90's Arcades blew up, they became more of a social thing than gaming place.
After all homework and study was done we would pretend to go out to play, while in fact we all went to Arcades to hang out,
spend our saved lunch money on a few coins, which were OFC almost instantly gone, and watch older teens play the game with
admiration how cool are they and, secretly, hoping that they will get annoyed by some stupid death, walk off because they are cool and let us have that
"last life." xD

It was fun part of childhood.
OFC sooner or later all of us got discovered by our parent, got few good slaps across our face and got dragged out of Arcade.
Home systems were way too expensive back then.

Later we had some crazy version of Tetris, like "999 in 1," while, in truth, it was pretty much "12 in 1" but just had them on repeat.
One of our childhood buddies had Game Boy and we were soooo stunned by the visuals, audio and how can you change games like that.

We devised a plan to snatch it.
Yep. We were not so good kids.
And we snatched it from him!

After that we piled up our lunch money, once per month we sneaked out and went to local flea market and spent saved money on Game Boy cartridges.
Again, we used to buy those "64 in 1" cartridges because, as we see it, we dont care if its original or not, it had 64 games on it.
Sega and Super Nintendo were around and you could play them at gaming cafes, but we never spent much time there, after all, any lunch money spent there
meant that we will have less money for our Game Boy games.

All that lasted till around we were seventh graders, 13y old.

Then gaming breakthrough happened.
Playstation One.
It BLEW everybody's mind!
It became social thing. Young, teens, older guys, dads, grandads.. everybody played it.
It was just that big.

My first 3D game that i ever played was Ace Combat.
We spent like all money that we had in gaming cafe in one day.
Both of us played Ace Combat non-stop for like 10hours or so.

Man, even now, decades later, i remember dizziness, nausea that we had that day. It took a tow on a brain, it never experienced something like that before.
Since then we spent most of our "gaming time" in local gaming cafe.
We dont have a DMCA law here, we never had, so pretty much everything ever released on PS1 was pirated in my country and sold as "legitimate" thing.
We played, we helped older guys to get into games explaining them commands, what they need to do etc etc.
They liked us because of that, we helped them look cool and they protected us if we were in trouble.
Owner of that gaming cafe liked us and at one point suggested to us that we can "work there" if our grades are good and were not skipping school (im thankful to this day that i met a person like that which found a way to keep us in school). He could do other things, we would be there to bill people, keep the place clean and play as much as we wanted if noone is playing.

As soon as we were out of high school (or whatever is in your country 15-19y schooling) both of us started working.
The money was super bad, we used to earn barely anything, it was more like slavery, doing heavy lifting and construction site work for like a $5 a day.
But we had a goal in our mind and we sticked to it.
About 6 months later, together, we bought our own, first, PC.
I think that first game that we played was either Worms, Jazz Jack Rabbit or Bomberman. I forgot.

But we were not done. We stick to our plan and another 6 months later we bought one more PC, exactly the same.
Sure, tech moved a bit forward but we wanted to avoid fighting over "better PC" and, tbh, constant race of upgrades.
As i mentioned earlier, we dont have DMCA laws so pretty much everything got either pirated or simply downloaded with DC++ client.
Since then we played pretty much anything. Crysis, NFS series, Soldier of Fortune, Max Payne etc etc..
Somewhere around that time PC emulation also became a thing. Game Boy Advance, Playstation 1, Sega Mega Drive, Commodore.. everything had a emulator.
We spent some time revisiting some games that used to eat us alive when we were kids, played a lot of other games that we missed out.

Moving forward..
Well all that fiddling around the gaming tech and PCs kept us off the streets during late 90's.
My country during that time was EXTREMELY bad place to be. We had two economy crashes that left more than half of nation, my family included, almost homeless.
This plunged our country in civil war, other counties saw the opportunity, got involved and that thing escalated quickly to regional war.
All of us had to work slavery hours, like 14-16h shifts, for almost no salary at all.
We were usually handed flower, sugar, vegetable oil, salt, fruits as a salary, not money.
But, lets skip that, it was a dark place that i honestly never wish for anybody to go trough, its not on topic and, most of all - we survived.

The "power of PC" peaked my curiosity, obviously its way more and can be used for way more stuff than just for games.
Being that we went trough what i mentioned above i knew that i cant and wont rely on my country and climate dictated by ours and local countries politicians and political climates.
I decided to study to be programmer and web designer - C, Java, PHP, HTML and CSS.
I managed to start working as freelancer and, finally, be paid decently enough to start building my own life.
That was around when we were 23y old.

Since then i did a lot of work, got my own place and continued building life, but that inner kid that loves gaming never left me.
Spending a lot of time buried in thousands lines of codes writing, bug hunting, compiling... can (and will) affect mental health.
Ive fulfilled my goals which i had with programming and designing and, honestly, for my mental health moved along.

Now, years later, as you can see by my age, im older guy, i have family, kids (one toddler and one teen) that drive miss and me nuts.
Family time first, kiddos and miss, and when all of them are contented, i steal few hours of "boys time" and fire off a game or two with buddies of mine.

For me I had a computer when I was 3 and I would play IGI on that and need for speed 2 and progressed from there.
My father introduce me in PC Gaming way back then when I was still a little child until now. I'm carrying his legacy of the gaming world.

I never enjoyed playing on PC because I was so used to controllers that I couldn't deal with Keyboard and Mouse, but then a friend of mine showed me huge variety of games that were PC exclusive and I had to sell my PS4 to build a gaming PC. It is far more economic in game prices and upgrades so I'm happy now
