im not good at maths myself but when i put that value in, its outcome was 1, literally.

Your calculation is completely incorrect.
If x = 0.999999
10x = 0.99999
^ Notice how there is now five "9" in the decimal value instead of the six "9" we started with
10x-x = 9.99999 - 0.999999
9x = 8.999991
x is still = 0.999999
As I have appropriately proven above, your assumption of 0.999999 being = 1 is not true and was based on an incorrect calculation.

The error in this is that in the step where you subtract 0.999999 from 9.9999999, you are assuming that the digits after the decimal point cancel out, leaving only the integer part.
if you would take definite value x=0.999999
10x will be 9.99999 not 9.9999999
the more 9's we take at the end, the more we get closer to the number 1 but never will we reach it
