If you can do your assignments from home and don't need to bring your laptop to lectures you should choose PC. But, as a uni student myself, I would choose the laptop, even though I don't posses one. Just the portability alone is enough for me, you can write your notes in it, do your assignments without going home etc... Overall, a laptop will save you a lot of time, which is very limited as a student. It is true that you will get less specs for the bigger price, so choose wisely.

i prefer PCs, its easier to get better performance on a PC which is my main priority, i dont need the mobility and ease that a laptop provides as I only need to use my pc when im at home

it depends, Laptop is more accessible when it comes to school or office works, then PC is good for gaming at home and working at home.
