I try to gather some very common problems and categorize those responsible by hardware or software. Obviously such a local can only work as an indication since the hardware (or rather its combinations) are infinite and each system is separate.
1) The pc does not open suddenly: Possible cause:
a) Problem in motherboard. The most obvious are cracked capacitors, usually seen by the eye. For other problems in the motherboard one has to go through the individual instead of excluding everything else.
b) Power supply. Test with another meter or multimeter power supply. Recommended only to those who get their hands on it.
c) Ram memory. We check one by one to see if it will start with anyone.
d) Short circuit between box and mobo. Check the spacers on which the motherboard rests on the box.
e) Damaged power button. We try to start it by short-circuiting the corresponding pins indicated by the manual of each parent.
f) It goes without saying that we have checked the power cord, socket and ups if inserted.
2) The pc restarts or turns off while playing a game.
Possible cause:
a) Excessive temperature on the graphics card, processor or both. We check with a program by activating the osd in the game.
b) Power supply. Inadequate or problematic.
3) Sudden freezes of a few seconds while performing simple (or complex) tasks.
Possible cause:
a) Hard disk drive. We check with a program like hdsentinel.
b) ram memory. We check the memtest bootable cd memories.
4) The pc is taking too long to get into windows.
Possible cause:
a) We check which processes it loads at startup via msconfig.
b) Hard disk drive. Picture of hdsentinel.
5) My RAM run at 1333 while they are 1600hrs - My memories run at 533, 667, 800MHz:
Possible cause:
a) The motherboard did not automatically timer them. Manual adjustment based on the parent manual.
b) In the latter case the memories actually run at 1066, 1333, 1600 respectively so this is not a problem. This is because many programs (eg cpu-z) show us the real clock instead of the effective ones listed by the manufacturers.
6) My ssd numbers are a long way from being advertised.
Possible cause:
a) The ssd was connected to a sata2 socket. Check what the sata3 are from the manuals and attach it correctly.
b) The ahci mode in bios is not enabled.
c) Our ssd is based on sandforce controller. In addition to the above we run the ATTO to see the numbers we want.
7) While playing a game I get a message that the graphics driver has stopped working and has been restored.
Possible cause:
We try with other graphics card drivers even older if we have the latest version. Properly uninstall existing ones with either driver sweeper or atiman unistaller (for amd cards only).
8) Black boxes appear on the screen or the desktop overflows.
Possible cause:
Configure the graphics card driver. We go to the scaling option
9) My windows show less available ram memory than the existing one.
Possible cause:
a) 32bit version of windows. For quantity> = 4GB we install 64bit version.
b) Built-in memory card graphics card. We check the memory remaping option in the bios and set a value. In any case, we disable the embedded card if there is dedicated gpu.
c) msconfig / computer startup / advanced options. Change the maximum memory option by ticking or unchecking the corresponding checkbox.
d) If not solved by the above, we check the version of the bios we have and look for any new ones that solve the issue. It goes without saying that if we do not have a problem, we do not need bios update.
As a final solution to a potential hardware problem, we try to set everything out of the box to see if they work.
PS. In any case, if the pc is running out of specs (overclocking) it means that we go back to stock settings before doing anything.
