Surprisingly little is known about the life of the child pharaoh Tutankhamun, but some historians believe they know how he died. Body scans of the young king show that he was mummified without a heart or chest wall. This means he may have suffered a terrible injury before his death. According to a group of Egyptologists, one of the most likely causes of this wound is that he was bitten by a hippopotamus. Evidence suggests that Egyptians hunted animals for sport, and statues found in King Tut's tomb depict him throwing harpoons. If the child pharaoh did indeed play such dangerous games, his death may have been the result of a hunt gone wrong.
