Because the weight would make the flight impossible. A Boeing 737-700 constructed from fiberglass and carbon weighs up to 70 tons, but if it were made with the resins and alloys of steel and titanium lining the electronic part of the black box, it would weigh six times as much. This would require giant engines and an impractical amount of fuel.
Why aren't airplanes made of the same material as the black boxes?
