The error in this is that in the step where you subtract 0.999999 from 9.9999999, you are assuming that the digits after the decimal point cancel out, leaving only the integer part.
if you would take definite value x=0.999999
10x will be 9.99999 not 9.9999999
the more 9's we take at the end...
