League of Legends becuase the game itself is more welcome for the newcomers, whilst Dota 2 isn't straightforward or supportive in terms of learning curve, which is a big demotivator (at least for me). Also the graphics and champions are more appealing :)

For begginers I would say ashe, annie, garen and teemo, after some time you can discover further complexity of these champions but they are easy to catch for newbies :) I also enjoyed playing morgana on support when I've first started with LOL.

That's my opinion based on my experience (Im giving only the top of the top): TOP - Fiora, Yone JNG - Kindred, Olaf (He is insane) MID - Viktor, Syndra and Corki ADC - Kog'Maw, Kalista (and personally I like Lucian) SUPP - Xerath and Pyke for aggresive gameplay and Lulu for more subtle games

If you have D1 you will be much better with the scripts, but I don't know what kind of help you actually need. Setting it up, creating configs - other than that it's pretty straightforward.
