As humans, it's hard to shake the idea that our existence should matter beyond breathing. Life begins and ends, yes, but there is definitely a greater meaning. The problem is that these stories we tell ourselves fall short of softening the harsh reality: when it comes to the universe, perhaps we are nothing more than brief and randomly gathered collections of energy and matter.
