First of all, you need to know that I live in Brazil and every house here is made of blocks and concrete and with iron bars on its doors/windows for protection.
The first thing I would do is setting a safe zone; The place I live in.
I would kill everything that needes to be killed on the place where I live (there are four houses here alongside mine, each with its own doors railings. After that I would expand my safe zone, there is a market at the other side of street, so I would use some car to block the street and garant safe acess to the market. From here onward I would keept pushing my safe zone, killing everything, loocking everything, until I get to a luxurious place on my city that have big houses, high walls and a lot of clean space for agriculture. To go from where I live to that place, cleaning and looking everything up should take me few years(maybe less if I use the subway. Brazil subway, at my city, goes above the cars, not bellow the ground), but yeah, thats what I would do.
My starthing weapon would be a shovel.

zombie won't be a problem at all. the problem is the collapse of the economy and all that, so first thing is to get far far away to farm so I get my food and be far from humans, then go back to get gold and guns if possible if not I will just have to get some books to learn how to build staff I need .

Simple, just learning how to use a sword is very effective and does not attract the attention of other zombies
